Briars U11 Girls Junior Cricket team WIN the Sixers Cricket League

The Under 11 girls cricket team were winners of the Sixers Cricket league Spring Finals Series last Saturday. Briars finished 2nd on the competition ladder and faced the top of the table undefeated Randwick Wicklets in the Grand final match.

Our under 11s team had lost to the Wicklets 2-weeks prior to the Grand Final and knew that it was going to require all the girls to play their best game on the day to beat the opponents.

Briars won the toss and elected to bat first.

All the girls displayed their best batting performance of the season and made important contributions to the team score of 96 runs off 20 overs. Briars then continued their impressive form in the field, with accurate bowling, good fielding and successful run outs. They defended their total well taking 8 wickets and winning the match by 28 runs.

Coach Rosie Ryan was extremely proud of every players personal best performance and in particular how well they played together supporting each other as a team.

Rosie is to be congratulated on her fantastic  coaching achievements with the under 11’s Briars team. Her teams have made four straight grand final appearances and won three out of the four matches. The club and girls are extremely fortunate to be led by such an experienced, skilled and inspiring coach and mentor.

Briars Canberra Tour – Kookaburra Cup 2022

Concord Briars Junior Cricket Club was proudly represented by two Under 14 teams and an Under 12 team at the 2022 Kookaburra Cup, organized by Cricket ACT in Canberra. The Kookaburra Cup is an annual pre-season tournament attracting players and teams from around the country. The T20 tournament is held at multiple venues across Canberra and is open to entries from both boys and girls. This year the tournament ran from 5th to 7th October 2022.

Unfortunately, the cold and rainy weather conditions meant only a few fortunate teams were able to get some games on Day 1 with Day 2 and finals completely washed out due to wet outfields.  The Briars team started the tour by bonding over dinner, post the formal tournament launch, where Alex Carey dialed in to meet and greet the young cricketers.

The Briars teams shon in the little cricket that was played – with teams across age groups playing their matches in style and making some new friends along the way. Special shout out to Haider from our U14 Maroons team for playing a fantastic knock of ‘52 not out’ bringing the team total to a fantastic 120 and ensuring a good win. Another youngster who made his mark was Fergus Smith of the U12 Golds who finished with 4 wickets from his 2 overs, ensuring a team win.
Congratulations to all the teams!!

A big thank you to our Kookaburra Cup coordinator and committee member Eliza Amparo, for coordinating the cup activities and to the club committee for ensuring our boys looked smart and warm in their special Briars Kookaburra Cup gear!

The Briars U12 Golds and ANU U12 Boys Navy Owls after their reduced overs match

Completely rained out Thursday and Friday meant that the games were abandoned, and teams spent time bonding over Go-karting and pool! Our annual Briars – Kookaburra dinner was a great opportunity to catch up with other teams and families and had near 100% attendance. The dinner and special ice-cream desserts for the players were sponsored by the Concord Briars Junior Cricket Club – a gesture appreciated by the players and families!
