Vale – John Crockart

John Crockart joined The Briars Sporting Club in 1967 playing cricket and hockey.

Playing cricket, John was a left arm spin bowler. John had great success with his bowling taking 5-11 and 6-17 in his early days. Although not a hat-trick John took three wickets in one over with the opposition Pennant Hills all out for 76.
In 1975 John played A Shires and the team needing 26 runs for the last wicket John with Ian Blair achieved this total for a memorable win. Not only did John play cricket but he was also a hockey player mainly in B Grade at inside right.

John’s administrative skills shone out. He was a bar steward, on the hockey subcommittee and house committee and in 1972 became honorary treasurer, a position he held for six years. In 1983 John was appointed to the board, a position he held for 11 years.
John was meticulous in his financial presentations on board, preparing each month a detailed record of income and expenditure.
John’s other claim to fame was he could keep score in his head while the opposition were batting which was a great help to the captain of the day.

John will be sorely missed through his distinctive laugh and his administrative skills, a true Briar.
To Kathy go our condolences.
The funeral will be held on Thursday 24 May 2018 at 10 a.m. at Macquarie Park Crematorium Magnolia Chapel and afterwards in the Jade Room, Macquarie Park.
