Vale – Carole Pomroy

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much loved and greatly valued Member, Carole Pomroy.

Carole came to Greenlees Park Womens Bowling Club in October 2017, after the closing of her original Club Concord RSL Bowling Club.  She was quick to become an active member of the club both as a Lead Bowler and as a valuable member of our Management Committee.

As a bowler, Carole, as we all do, had her share of wins and losses.  Her bowls led her to be selected to play in NSW Pennant Grade 4 team in which she played over several years.  The highlight for Carole was in 2021 when her team were undefeated in their pennant series at her district level, they won the play-offs to gain a place in the State finals at Marks Point on the Central Coast in November 2021.  The team played hard games over two days and all enjoyed the time away and although unsuccessful, Carole would agree that they played well, met some great people and would have taken a prize for having fun.  They also managed to win no less than five meat raffles at the host club.

Carole was the perfect person on the Management Committee, she always showed up, she would undertake any task that was asked of her.  She would purchase raffle prizes, sell raffle tickets, help with catering and set up for the many events in our calendar.  She didn’t hesitate to become one of the women and men charged with tutoring the children from the local school in how to play bowls; through the years that the Primary school children have been coming to Greenlees on a Friday afternoon.  Carole also assisted in other events outside Greenlees, associated with bowls, she was a great help to Gladys Barnes with Past Presidents Association and Veterans Day events.  In 2023 Carole was awarded the Brian Huttly Trophy for her generous contribution to the work that has to happen for bowls to happen.

Over and above all these factors, Carole was a truly generous, likeable, honest and humble person.  How proud her family must be! a lovely lady and a TRUE BLUE AUSSIE!!

Carole’s Funeral will be heldat 11am on Monday 25th March 2024 at Rookwood Cemetry,  Mary Mother of Mercy Catholic Chapel (opp. Catholic offices), followed by her burial in the adjacent cemetery, St John of God.
