Chairman’s Update

As we all look to put 2020 behind us, we wish to congratulate all sporting members, both junior and senior, for their efforts and achievements during 2020, which has been an unprecedented year due to Covid-19 related challenges. Our Winter sports were particularly effected but through the dedication of our volunteers and understanding from our players our sports got through an abbreviated season. Our summer sports are underway and going well.

The club recently finished its financial year at the end of September. The Board is very pleased to report that the club survived the challenges of Covid-19,  including a 10 week shut down, and remains in a solid financial position and well placed for future opportunities.

As a Club we especially realise that our sporting teams need access to good coaches, good facilities and a supportive, organised committee and volunteer base to compete successfully during each season, with growing costs always a challenge. To assist all our junior and senior sports of Cricket, Rugby, Hockey, Squash, Netball and Bowls, the Club has recently provided our sports with $150,000 in grants this year to cover some of the expenses in running each individual sport.

Since the Centenary Celebrations in 2018, Briars Sports have been actively collating the Club’s history and finding ways to display all the historic photo’s and memorabilia that are currently in storage. We are excited to report that in December, you will finally start seeing some changes taking place in the Ted Stockdale Lounge and the meeting area, which will incorporate the club’s history by using a fresh creative approach.

Other works that will begin immediately include:

  • Outdoor TV on the Ted Stockdale deck
  • Extension to the Ted Stockdale decking
  • Shade structure over the Ted Stockdale Deck
  • Memorabilia wall in the Ted Stockdale Lounge
  • Temporary extension of the gaming room into a portion of the Ted Stockdale Lounge
  • Memorabilia display/Conference facility in the meeting area

The above extension to the Ted Stockdale deck/shade structure will begin the overall project for that area which will encompass an extension to the kitchen. This extension will comprise a wood fired pizza oven and will service the Ted Stockdale deck!

We thank you for your continued support of Briars Sports and look forward to your ongoing patronage.
