Description
Founded in a chookyard by a group of young boys, its early beginnings were in athletics, football and cricket.
Today the club is rated one of the best in squash in Australia, is a Sydney Premier Hockey club and the most successful cricket team in Sydney Shires cricket for the past 20 years. Netball is a growing sport and lawn bowls has also been added. Along the way, the club has seen Wallabies come from its ranks, international hockey players for men and women and highly ranked squash players grace the sporting field both in Australia and overseas. Success has not been limited to sport, with members of the club achieving much in business and community life. The saying, “Once a Briar, always a Briar” certainly rings true and this book is the story of the men and women of The Briars Sporting Club.
The 316-page book has over 130 images, many never seen before. The images complement the story written by Ronald Cardwell, a writer and publisher of cricket and sporting books.
Included are details of those who have served the club, award winners and those who have achieved on the sporting fields.
The limited edition, leather bound copy of the Briars Centenary Book has been signed by some of the club’s most significant members and is a valuable historic reference for the Briars Centenary.
